I love Potomac Woods. I started swimming here in the Summer of 1988, and can’t remember a summer when I was not here. I have literally grown up at Potomac Woods doing everything from landscaping, stocking the vending machines, lifeguarding, managing the pool, assistant coaching, and my favorite, being the Head Coach of the Potomac Woods Demons. It has been a great honor and pleasure to work with and teach the children in our community. I hope the same passion and love for the sport of swimming is passed on to each group of kids as we watch them develop from Pre-Teamers to graduating team members.
In the other boring part of the year (who knew there were 10 other months?!?) I teach at Poolesvillie HS where I coach the 7 Time State Champion Swim and Dive Team. I also coach throughout the year for Rockville Montgomery Swim Club at the Olney Swim Center.
I started swimming when I was 11 years old and fell in love with the sport the minute I jumped in the pool. Since then I've had the opportunity not only to swim with Coach Jonny as my coach, but to also coach for 6 years with the Poolesville swim team. I was head coach at Poolesville for two of those years. Swimming to me is one of the greatest sports out there because it is as much fun as it is hard work. I believe that if you're not having fun swimming then something is wrong. As a coach and a teammate I'm here to help, teach, and respect everyone on deck.
Mara Kaplan is a rising Junior at the University of Michigan. She began swimming for Potomac Woods at age 6, and this will be her 5th summer coaching for the Demons. She swam for RMSC from the ages of 8-18 and was a 4 year varsity member of the Churchill High School Swim Team.
